I am a new member of the SCA but I have been alittle disheartened by some of the things I have seen. What I mean is that as a heavy weapons fighter I started in the SCA almost a year ago but I see alot of people that don't even try to be authentic (or at least wear plate armour) in their wearing of battle gear. I don't want you guys to get the wrong idea about what I saying. I don't mean the people that can only afford hockey gear but its the people that don't even try. Take me for instance, I attended a fighter practice and had to wear the loaner gear. I immediately went home after that and bought my first 4x8 sheet of 18 gauge steel and now I have my own full suit of armour (except for the Sabotons, I am still working on them) but I took the initiative by researching online and reading books about how to make medieval plate armor. I would be happy to get with you guys and learn some more armouring tips and methods. I am nowhere near where I want to be in skill level but it will come with age (LOL). I would appreciate your advice and fellowship.
