Efforts at resuscitation

Good afternoon -

It's the day after Crown weekend. Lots to process, including questions about me
and us, them, you, when, if and how, history and what's next.

Let me 'splain.

There is too much to be "summing up". It's a lot of personal information, but if
you can wade through it, I'd appreciate it.

If you've been living under a rock, you may not know that my life is very, very
different now that it was three years ago. I've taken a long vacation from the
SCA, but haven't necessarily been relaxing, per se. I have been deeply involved
in home and garden, and things like pirates and modern music and Steampunk and
Victoriana and fancy teas and Regency things. Robert and I are separated; I own
a little house (way too damned little for all the stuff I want to do) in NE
Denver. I'm no longer traveling for a living; I got laid off in May. My mon
cheri moved in a few months ago, and although Simon hasn't been terribly active
in the SCA for some time, we seem to have a synergy about this living history
thing that has re-ignited our passion for playing the game, and like anything
worth doing, doing it well.

Robert and I "held" the Golden Lyons as our household; I have spoken to him
about it, and he has said that I should move forward and should I wish to
develop the Company independent of his involvement, I should do so.

I wish to resuscitate the Company, but I have no desire to do so by myself; in
Simon I have a partner who is dedicated to the same goals and ideals as I have,
and upon which the Company was founded. We are in agreement that the Company
should be continued, maintained, and developed, and we are very interested in
your comments on the following points:

-- Are you still interested in being a part of the Company? (Whether you are or
are not, you're still welcome to listen in here, of course.)
-- At what level of involvement are you in the SCA currently?
-- To what level are you interested in dedicating time/energy to promoting the
precepts of the Company through involvement in the Company; things like
developing your own kit, contributing to Company camps, or attending Company
events?
-- What should we do to promote and develop the Company?
-- What else do you want to say about it?

You can reply to the list, or if you're shy (and I don't think that I know many
shy people), reply to me alone.

We have a number of ideas in the works, like a new web site, planning for our
"traditional" winter feast, coordinating attendance/impression at events, and
sponsoring a local teaching event with an authenticity theme. We've been out to
the Meadows Group campground to evaluate its suitability for our summer camp,
and find it so - even to the point of ample space to accommodate people who wish
to attend, but have no period tent. (Simon points out that he finds it adequate,
and a long way to drive for "adequate" - and he wants to take a look at other
camps, too.)

I do want to discuss this all with you here, but additionally Simon has
suggested that we do a pot-luck here at our house in a couple of weeks to talk
face-to-face. Our tentative date is the evening of Friday, Oct. 2, and if
there's any interest, we can cross-post an invitation to the Outlands
Authenticity list. Cool?

So, did I cover it all? (Checks the first paragraph.) I did. Thanks for your
attention, and thanks in advance for your input.

Lijsbet

Newsflash

A silk banner making workshop will be held on November 14th and 15th, at the home of Mistress Arwen and Lord Guillaume. The cost will be $9.00 per yard of 45" wide silk, which covers the cost of the silk and the gutta and dyes. Two yards of silk can create two standards, 6' x 22.5". Bring sumi and sponge brushes, and - if you can - full-size (i.e. 18" square) line drawings of the armorial contents of your banner. (I already have the Outlands' populace badge and a laurel wreath in the 22" size.) I will provide frames and gutta bottles.

If you are interested in making silk banners or pennons, contact Mistress Lijsbet as soon as possible, so we can ensure that we have enough supplies.
